Eight out of 10 women would have surgery to lose weight rather than through diet and exercise.

Almost eight out of 10 women would choose plastic surgery to lose weight rather than adjust their eating habits and exercise patterns, according to a new survey.

The women said liposuction would ”work immediately” and ”give great results”.More than half of British men and women would rather shift excess weight through drastic surgery than diet or exercise, the poll said. Women see weight-loss operations as the key to quick results while some men regard it as the ”lazy option”, it found. Asked how they would like to lose excess weight, liposuction was the most popular with women (34 per cent), followed by gastric bypass (26 per cent) and cutting calories (14 per cent). Eight per cent would opt for a tummy tuck while just 2 per cent said they would exercise more and 6 per cent would combine diet and exercise.

Overall, 26 per cent of women said they never exercise and would rather endure the discomfort of surgery than visit a gym once a week. The survey was carried out among 1,305 members of the public on behalf of the website http://www.goodsurgeonguide.co.uk.  It found 56 per cent of men and women in the UK would rather lose weight through surgery than eating less and exercising more. Meanwhile, more than half of men (52% per cent) said they would rather lose their extra pounds by increasing the amount they exercise. The next most popular option for men wanting to shed pounds was having a tummy tuck (19 per cent) followed by liposuction (11 per cent).

Most men (63 per cent) regarded surgery as ”the lazy option” but just 7 per cent would cut calories to drop excess pounds, with only 7 per cent combining diet and exercise.

Christiana Clogg, owner of The Good Surgeon Guide, said: ”Obesity is a huge issue in the UK. ”The nation certainly needs to get healthier; however we also need to get fitter. ”Surgery may be a quick fix and give great results, but it doesn’t always improve underlying health or psychological issues.

”If people are considering weight-loss surgery they could be suffering from low self-esteem – this is when people can get blinded by low prices and technical language.

”Researching the practitioner and surgery is absolutely imperative.”
