The Botox gender gap

Do you cry discrimination when you’re charged more for a haircut than men are? Cheer up! What the image-conscious man saves in the salon he may end up spending at the dermatologist.

According to study published in the journal Dermatologic Therapy, men require more Botox to get results comparable to their female counterparts.

Researchers have found that unsatisfactory wrinkle reduction in men after Botox injections is usually due to inadequate doses. Because men naturally have more muscle mass than women, they often need more units of cosmetic botulinum.

Although injectors and patients need to keep this in mind for optimum treatment results, the researchers say, gender alone doesn’t determine the appropriate amount. The study notes that slender, smaller-framed men may get sufficient results from the same dosage size as women.
